Color Theory Workshop

For beginning painters, color and value relationships can be confusing. You may wonder "which blue should I use?" Or what is the difference between all of these blue tubes I have? Students may use either oil or acrylic paints.

Learn more about color and value relationships in this one-day painting workshop with John Fleck. In this color theory workshop, he will discuss
the value relationships of colors. Students will do some mixing/swatch exercises. The plan is to make some limited-palette paintings. They really helps students get to know a small number of colors. With color, "less is more." Pare down those numerous tubes in your bags and learn to paint with only the essentials.

Students will learn about the following:
• value relationships (tints and shades)
• neutralizing exercises
• color temperature (how to create depth)

A project might involve mixing a matrix from 2 colors + white and then making a painting (sketch, really) using only those limited colors (see image)

We will also look at some great paintings to learn to analyze the color schemes, and why they impact the viewer the way they do.
